mare of exceptional quality, Helena produced 15 foals between the
years 1979 and 1998, including two approved sons and many exceptional
performance horses.

Prusso
After his German approval, Prusso was brought to Canada by Gerda
Friedrichs and was part of the first major importation of Trakehners
to North America in 1957. An outstanding stallion of very high quality
with a particular talent for jumping. |
| Herbststurm |

Herbststurm,
an imposing sire with great charisma and shining beauty. Champion
Stallion of the DLG at Cologne in 1970. Prior to his sale to Denmark
at the age of 12, Herbststurm left 68 registered broodmares, among
them were numerous valuable mares which belong to the most outstanding
of their era. A stallion of outstanding quality, Herbststurm's offspring
were known to possess his wonderful presence, outstanding bone,
substance and correct conformation, with excellent breed type and
honest character. Particularly successful cross on mares with high
content of thoroughbred blood. Herbststurm was also used extensively
in Oldenburg to refine and improve the Oldenburg breed. |
Hoheit
IV
A valuable producing mare whose foals were consistently of correct
conformation with good frame and strong bone, possessing particularly
good riding characteristics. |
Totilas
Totilas was born at the Trakehner central stud in 1938. Described
as the most prominent foundation stallion in West German Trakehner
breeding, Totilas contributed over 100 registered mares and several
approved sons. |
Handfeste
A mare of great significance to the Trakehner breed. All foals were
of particularly high quality possessing strong bodies, beautiful
light movements and obvious jumping talent. |
Humboldt
A stallion of great importance, Humboldt sired over 120 stud book
mares as well as 17 approved sons. Through his progeny and their
offspring have come many flourishing stallion lines and International
competition and Olympic horses for both jumping as well as dressage.
Humboldt was also used as an improvement sire for the Westphalian
and Hanoverian breeds. |
| Komet

Champion and
top prize winning black stallion of particular beauty who stood
as Chief Stallion at Schmoel, then went on to stand at the state-run
establishment at Achselschwang in Bavaria where he contributed to
the Bavarian horse breeding industry numerous premium mares and
licensed stallions. A self-confident, lively and highly noble stallion,
the impressive Komet possessed great body harmony and clear breed
type. Komet was a great mover, demonstrating engergetic, rhythmical
paces. With his valuable genes, Komet proved to be an important
producer of excellent quality riding and competition horses. He
has had a large impact on Trakehner breeding through his notable
sons Gunnar, Herbstglanz, Hessenstein and Herbststurm. |
Herbstgold
Foaled in 1957, Herbstgold was known to produce horses of good character,
above average movement and rideability. Of her 15 foals produced,
this beautiful Totilas daughter produced four approved stallions
(Hertilas, Herststurm, Herzbube and Herzkonig). She was indeed an
extremely valuable mare to the breed. |
| Pregel |

The most successful
representative of the Dampfross line, this grey stallion, foaled
in 1958, is known as the most prominent and best riding horse sire
of the postwar period in the whole of German riding horse breeding.
Having sired 11 licensed sons, including the legendary Donauwind,
Pregel's influence on the Trakehner breed will benefit riding horse
breeding for decades to come. |
Hortensie
A mare of particularly high quality, Hortensie's foals were consistently
of a harmonious appearance, possessing great beauty and correct
frames.

| Pythagoras

Born at Trakehner
in 1927, it is noted that the brown Pythagoras would have been the
most influential and important stallion every used at Trakehner
if he had stood there until the end of his days, but the 1944 evacuation
of the stud put a premature end to his career. Between 1931 and
1944, Pythagoras sired 70 approved sons. |
| Kokette

A foundation
mare at the Schmoel and Rantzau studs, Kokette was a magnificent
example of a mare of classic Trakehner type. One of the most outstanding
broodmares in the history of West German Trakehner breeding. In
West Germany she produced nine foals in eleven breeding years, which
included the approved stallions Neuland by Neuling (exported to
Colombia as a breeding stallion), Kornett by Wilder Jager (in 1952
was acquired by a Trakehner stud farm in Italy), as well as Komet
and his brother Kobalt (both by Goldregen). Her ability to consistently
produce foals of excellent quality, good character and sociable
temperament must be praised. In 1951 Kokette was awarded first place
at the DLG Exhibit in Frankfurt/Main and also received the title
of the best warmblood mare at the exhibition. |
Tropenwald
An above average stallion with strong caliber and good movement.
Held in very high esteem by the experts of the breed. He has become
an important factor in today's Trakehner breeding, especially through
his legendary son Pregel. |
| Dampfross
|

Dampfross,
seen as one of the most important lines in the development of the
Trakehner breed, standing out as being particularly good for transmitting
exceptional riding qualities. Used both in the central stud and
on a regional level, Dampfross rose to fame in particular as the
sire of numerous licensed stallions. With a striking ability to
pass on to his progeny his incredible presence, sturdy, correct
conformation and excellent ground covering, energetic, elastic paces,
his descendants were also much appreciated as riding horses because
of their easy, even and generous temperaments. In all, approximately
50 of Dampfross's sons served at East Prussian regional studs. His
influence was spread even wider by his numerous grandchildren and
great grandchildren. |
| Pilger |

Born
at Trakehnen in 1926, Pilger was the example of the ideal combination
of quality, substance and superlative paces. His name stands out
on the long list of successful central stud stallions as a sire
with outstanding breeding points. |
| Polarstern
|
 |
Foaled
in 1930, Polarstern was used with very good effect on the black
Trakehner herd based at the Gurdzen farm and contributed the bone
and substance which was required at that period in the breed's history,
while still passing on breed type and quality. Sixteen stallions
which were standing at Trakehnen just before its destruction were
all evacuated in the autumn of 1944 and headed for the west. All
were lost or disappeared in the confusion at the end of the war.
Only Polarstern was found in the early 1950's and as such, played
a very important roll in the revival of horse breeding in Poland. |
| Ararad

The
black stallion Ararad, foaled in 1921, during his lifetime was one
of the central stud's most consistent stallions. A stallion with
substance and long lines, known to be extremely prepotent. Ararad
had numerous sons which stood at regional studs. His progeny all
inherited substance and outstanding paces as well as a pleasing
type and good character, earning him the rare honor of having spent
his entire life at stud at Trakehnen. |
| Paradox
xx |

In later years, of the several Thoroughbred stallions standing at
the Trakehnen central stud, the most influential and prepotent sire
was Paradox xx. His influence was felt in the private East Prussian
horse breeding industry as well as at the Trakehnen central stud,
where he was foaled in 1919. |
| Cancara |
 |
Foaled
in 1917, one of the great names in the history of Trakehner breeding
and one of the most important stallions of his period was Cancara.
A remarkable horse, Cancara was an untiring performer in the sporting
field, qualities which he transmitted to his progeny. Known for
producing performance horses which rose to fame in the equestrian
sport of the time. His daughters Donna and Kokette were two of the
most outstanding broodmares in the history of West German Trakehner
breeding. |
| Hirtensang
|

Foaled
in 1930 at Trakehnen, Hirtensang was an important sire in the history
of Trakehnen's chestnut herd. Through his sons and daughters, Hirtensang
has had a profound and widespread influence on West German Trakehner
breeding. His progeny all inherited outstanding type, together with
substance and dynamic paces. |
